Soft Reset Privacy Policy

This privacy policy explains how Soft Reset, an Android wellbeing application developed by Kivorune Studio, handles information. Contact us at privacy@kivorunestudio.com with privacy questions.

Information you enter

Soft Reset lets you record habits and completion counts, schedules and reminders, affirmation favourites, self-care preferences, journal entries, Brain Dump entries, and guided reflections. Some of this information may be personally sensitive because it reflects your thoughts and wellbeing. You decide what to enter.

Where information is stored

These entries and preferences are stored in the app's private storage on your Android device. Journal, Brain Dump and guided reflection content is encrypted on the device using cryptographic keys managed by Android Keystore. Some other app data, including habit and preference records, is held in app-private preferences without additional application-level encryption. We do not represent all stored information as being independently encrypted by the app.

The reviewed version does not implement an app-operated account, automatic cloud synchronisation, advertising network, or separate analytics service. We do not receive your journal, Brain Dump or habit entries through an app-operated server in the reviewed release candidate.

Manual backup and third-party storage

You can choose to create a password-protected, encrypted backup of your Soft Reset data and save it using Android's file picker. You control where that file goes. If you choose a cloud storage provider, shared location, or another app, that provider's own privacy practices apply. Kivorune Studio does not receive or recover your backup password; losing it may make the file unrecoverable.

Notifications

If you enable habit reminders, Soft Reset uses your selected reminder settings to schedule notifications on your device. Android may ask for notification permission. You can change reminder settings in the app or manage notification permissions in Android settings. Reminder details are processed locally for scheduling; their delivery may be affected by Android's battery and notification controls.

Google Play and purchases

The reviewed beta includes the Google Play Billing library, but actual Premium purchasing and paid entitlement activation are disabled pending secure purchase verification. If purchases are enabled in a future version, we will review and update this policy as appropriate. Google Play may process app installation, store and payment-related information under Google's own terms and privacy policy; we do not receive full payment card details.

How information is used and shared

Soft Reset uses information entered into the app to display your habit progress, writing, reflections, favourites, and reminders. The optional “Help me sort my thoughts” tool uses local, rule-based suggestions; it does not send the entered text to an external artificial intelligence service in the reviewed version. We do not sell your personal entries or share them with advertisers. Information you choose to export or share outside the app is governed by your choices and the destination service.

Retention, deletion and restoration

Information remains on your device until you delete individual entries, clear the application's stored data, or uninstall the app, subject to Android and device behaviour. Clearing app data or uninstalling may permanently erase information if you have not kept a usable backup. Backups saved outside Soft Reset are not removed by uninstalling the app; delete those files separately wherever you stored them. Restoring a backup replaces local app data as described in the confirmation screen. We cannot remotely delete data stored only on your device or files held by another provider.

Security

We use Android app-private storage and on-device encryption for the writing features described above. Manual exports use password-based authenticated encryption. No method of storage is risk-free. The app's implementation has not undergone an independent security audit; protect access to your device and your backup files.

Wellbeing information

Soft Reset provides general wellbeing and self-reflection tools. It is not a medical service, does not diagnose or treat a condition, and is not an emergency response service.

Children

Soft Reset is not designed as a service directed specifically to children. We do not knowingly operate a user account or server collection system for children's personal entries in the reviewed version. Age suitability and Google Play audience declarations must be finalised before publication.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as Soft Reset changes, including if online services or purchasing become available. We will revise the effective date on this page when changes are made.
